Sending a Request

Postman sends requests to an API and displays the response. Start with the method, URL, and the result you expect. A request that returns 200 is not necessarily correct if its body contains the wrong data.
1.
Choose the HTTP method and enter the endpoint URL.
2.
Add query parameters, headers, and authentication where the API requires them.
3.
For a JSON body, use the JSON body editor and check Content-Type.
4.
Inspect the status code, response body, headers, and response time.

Repeatable Checks

Save related requests in a collection rather than rebuilding them by hand. Use an environment for values that differ between local development and a test server. The guides below cover environment variables and token authentication.
Check an ordinary request, invalid input, and a request without required authorization. Compare each response with the API contract. A desktop API client succeeding does not prove that a browser will pass CORS checks.

Sharing Requests Safely

Keep real passwords and tokens out of exported collections, screenshots, and public examples. Use placeholders or an appropriate secrets store, and inspect environment values before sharing them. Send requests only to systems you are authorized to test.
